You’re listening to Just A Little Old Schoolhouse, recorded by the Happiness Boys in 1927. There are about 100,000 public schools in the nation, with roughly 30, 000 private. And you’d be hard-pressed to find one that bears resemblance to the little old schoolhouse. Forget indoor outhouses…Today’s schools boast Smartboards, computers, even chocolate milk!
But it’s not all progress for progress’ sake, at least the way Bill Gates sees it: “Our current expectations for what our students should learn in school were set fifty years ago to meet the needs of an economy based on manufacturing and agriculture. We now have an economy based on knowledge and technology”.
